Code of Ethics / Privacy Statement

1. Cowra Family History Group Inc. and its members are conscious that collecting, collating and sharing information about people, living and deceased, is an essential element of family history.

2. Responsible family historians respect the law and the feelings of others and will always:

  • Seek by all reasonably available means to inform themselves about the legal principles in force from time to time governing the protection of copyright and of personal privacy;
  • Observe the legal rights of copyright owners, by copying or distributing any part of their works only with their permission, or to the extent allowed under the copyright law's fair use provisions;
  • Be sensitive to the hurt that revelations of criminal, immoral, bizarre or irresponsible behaviour may bring to family members;
  • Obtain specific consent from living people that they are agreeable to further sharing of information of themselves;
  • Inform people who provide information about their families of the ways it may be used, carefully recording and observing any conditions they may impose about the use of it; and,
  • Recognize that legal rights of privacy may limit the extent to which information from publicly available sources may be further used, disseminated or published.


Privacy Policy

Personal information solicited on the group's website is confidential and is treated in accordance with the provisions of the Commonwealth Privacy Act 1988. The site does not use cookies.

The group will only record your e-mail address:

(a) if you send us a message, or
(b) state it on an application for membership or renewal of membership, or
(c) supply it for the use with the Member's Interests Register
(d) supply it for receiving the group's monthly newsletter, or
(e) supply it for matters directly relating to the group's day to day business.

It will only be used for the purpose for which you have provided it. It will not be disclosed to a third party without your permission.

When you look at this web site, the Society's web service provider makes a record of your visit and logs information for statistical purposes, including the user's server address, the date and time of the visit to the site, pages accessed and documents downloaded.

The group will make no attempt to identify users or their browsing activities or disclose any information gathered unless required or authorized by law to do so.

Web pages which contain scripts (forms that can be submitted and page counters) can record your IP address, time of visit, and the function used. This information is only gathered for diagnostic and evaluation purposes.
